With Eid Al Adha approaching, LEGOLAND® Dubai, part of Dubai Parks and Resorts, the largest integrated theme park destination set to open on 31 October 2016, have unveiled another of its highly anticipated LEGO® models in MINILAND- the recreation of the world-renowned Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

Director General Mr. Yousif Al Obaidly and Ms. Amal Bamtraf, Director of Culture Communication & Activities Department, inspected the model on site at MINILAND alongside LEGOLAND Dubai’s General Manager, Siegfried Boerst ahead of Eid Al-Adha. The realistic rendition is made up of 536,292 LEGO bricks, taking over 6,300 hours to complete and weighing approximately 1,323 kilograms.

Aside from being an Islamic cultural destination, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque represents an artistic architectural icon in the UAE and the Middle East. The creative harmony and the outstanding integration between the Islamic and modern architectural styles made it a great model for architectural design. There were about 30 contractors and 30,000 workers involved with completing various elements of the structure and decoration. Materials were also sourced from many countries including Greece, Italy, Germany, China, India and  Morocco to name a few. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was opened for worshipers during the 1st day of Eid Al Adha in 2007.

“The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is not only an Islamic and cultural edifice, but also it’s one of the most important touristic destinations in the UAE and the region due to its unique design, amazing decorations and ornaments.  It was ranked the world’s second favourite landmarks in a list compiled by TripAdvisor in 2016, receiving more than 2.5 million visitors in 2015”, said Mr. Yousif Al Obaidly,  Director General, The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.  “Having a LEGO model of the Mosque in LEGOLAND Dubai will play a vital role in introducing the mosque as a touristic and cultural destination among the visitors as well as residents”, he added.

“We are extremely proud to reveal the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque MINILAND model in LEGOLAND Dubai,” said Siegfried Boerst, General Manager of LEGOLAND Dubai. “The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is not only one of the Emirate’s most important sites, but also a reflection of the UAE’s cultural values and natural heritage.”

Also present for the unveiling was technician Syed Mohamad Izzudin Bin Sayed Abu Bakar-Din, from the Merlin Magic Making Malaysian team who was one of the six model builders involved with the project and installation at LEGOLAND Dubai.
